Emily Westgate, Global Learning Charter Public School Alumnus, presented by the Jacobs Family Scholarship Program

New Bedford MA: Global Learning Charter (GLCPS) Public School Alumnus Emily Westgate was recently featured for her success by the Jacobs Family Scholarship Program.

Westgate was awarded the Jacobs Fellowship in 2011 as a student at the Global Learning Charter public school. She continued her education at Brown University to study public health with an emphasis on the social determinants of health and an emphasis on the role of education in the health and well-being of children. . Westgate’s professional experience includes working with government health agencies, non-profit organizations and corporate health agencies. She now works for New Bedford Public Schools as the program, data and assessment manager for health, physical education and wellness. Through her work with New Bedford Public Schools, she promotes the interdependence of student health, education, and overall well-being.

Emily remains a resident of New Bedford. The Jacobs Family Scholarship is in the amount of $ 35,000 over four years and is awarded to a New Bedford student who is pursuing studies in STEAM.

GLCPS is currently undertaking an $ 8 million fundraising campaign to finance the renovation of a historic building located at 106 Bullard Street in New Bedford creating “One School, One Campus”.
